Morley Field Walk
MorLey Field Walk
A recent lockdown walk along a disused ball field and the Moshassuck River, with remnants of encampments. Grey and chilly, shaking anxiety from my fingers like static electricity. Din of highway and creatures in the dead brush. The river babbling endlessly about the rain of a day ago.
East side Railroad Tunnel walk
Eastside Railroad Tunnel Walk
A walk under the east side of Providence via the infamous former New Haven Railroad tunnel. It’s a bigger space than you might think, and wetter. Have a listen.
Moshassuck Valley RR Walk
Moshassuck Valley RR Walk
A walk along the Providence and Worchester Railroad branch that was once the Moshassuck Valley Railroad, a tiny shortline built to connect a mill with the mainline of the New Haven Railroad. The branch line is still in use today. Click below to learn more.
Crook Point Walk
Crook Point Walk
Crook Point is on the East Providence side of the Seekonk River. It’s a human-made feature, created as part of the New Haven Railroad rail line into downtown Providence that included a bascule bridge and a two-track tunnel under the east side of Providence. On the Point itself, the tracks split into a wye, with one line heading northward and the other south. In the center of the wye, hidden by dense vegetation is a pond, green with algae. Some portions of rail remain.
